Tuning tips for the Alfa Romeo 156

Engine Tuning

We like the 156 and with a few of our 156 tuning tips we are sure you will have a fantastic car. Better than what Alfa Romeo ever intended!

Available in standard form with power of upto 251bhp (depending on the year), so this goes to show the tuning potential of the 156. From this you can increase the power from anywhere between 276.1bhp to 426.7bhp and this would take a lot more than just bolting on a massive exhaust and adding a go faster stripe.

For serious power hikes like this you would need to look at rebores, porting and polishing and add into the mix a hefty dose of forced induction.

If you have a lower powered 156 your best bet for a mod would be an engine swap with the 251bhp 156 Saloon. Already a popular choice for tuning up, especially the more powerful 156sTop of your list for tuning mods will be a sports exhaust system, a fuel boost valve (for a snappy throttle response) and a good quality induction kit.

The Car Tuning Guide recommend that on the 156s , you get a fast road cam. Turn your attention next to the 156s engine head. With a good gas flowed ported engine you will see much better mid and peak range power.

The top 156 Saloon offers a base power level of 251 bhp. The car tuning guide would expect you to see power gains from 276.1 bhp to 426.7 bhp!

A 156 with forced induction (turbo or supercharger) will give even larger power gains that this. The most powerful 156 has a healthy 251 bhp. In a competition setting you may well, with some forced induction, reboring and other major work see power figures between 326.3 bhp to 476.9bhp with mods we have outlined above.) Suspension upgrades are next on every 156 owners priority list. You shouldn’t really lower a car by more than 30-35mm.

We will be covering 156 modifications in more detail in the future so plase bookmark this site and check back for regular updates.
