When tuning your Super it is important that you get it right so follow our Super tuning overview and see which the best modifications are.
Available in standard form with power of upto 261bhp (depending on the year), so this goes to show the tuning potential of the Super. From this you can increase the power from anywhere between 287.1bhp to 443.7bhp with modifications varying from a few DIY mods to some pretty major engine work. The higher you go the more unreliable the car will be and you should expect to have to rebuild the engine regularly if you want to extract silly power. A big forced induction upgrade would be needed to push beyond the 100bhp per 1000cc limit.
Caterham mods should include an engine swap to provide a better base to work from. The ’261bhp Super Sevens’ is a real gem in terms of power. Looking at what Caterham have done with their top of the range Supers you get an idea for the tuning potential open to you. Top of your list for tuning mods will be a sports exhaust system, a fuel boost valve (for a snappy throttle response) and a good quality induction kit.
A fast road cam will make quite a difference to the peak power of your Super. Getting better flow through the head of the engine would reward your Super with more power. So get the engine head polished and ported.
The top Super Seven offers a base power level of 261 bhp. The car tuning guide would expect you to see power gains from 287.1 bhp to 443.7 bhp!
The forced induction Supers are around with some impressive Turbo and supercharger conversions being done. These give impressive power gains over standard but require a lot of effort to get working properly. If you have a turbo or supercharger get the intercooler uprated for even more power. The most powerful Super has a healthy 261 bhp. In a competition setting you may well, with some forced induction, reboring and other major work see power figures between 339.3 bhp to 495.9bhp with mods we have outlined above.) Many Super owners improve the handling of their cars with slightly stiffer springs. To avoid other problems you should lower the car no more than 36mm.
