Increase the power of your Daihatsu Sportrak
Really hot tuning tips and advice.
Available in standard form with power of upto 94bhp (depending on the year), so this goes to show the tuning potential of the Sportrak. From this you can increase the power from anywhere between 103.4bhp to 159.8bhp with modifications varying from a few DIY mods to some pretty major engine work. The higher you go the more unreliable the car will be and you should expect to have to rebuild the engine regularly if you want to extract silly power. A big forced induction upgrade would be needed to push beyond the 100bhp per 1000cc limit.
An engine swap with that from the 94bhp Sportrak Softtop will give a massive power gain and provide a better base to work from. The standard Sportraks are positively crying out for more power. Sportrak tuning projects should generally start with some improvement to the intake/exhaust of the engine. So get a stainless steel exhaust and good quality sponge or cotton gauze panel air filter. A good fuel pressure regulator will up the throttle response.
The Car Tuning Guide recommend that on the Sportraks , you get a fast road cam. Turn your attention next to the Sportraks engine head. With a good gas flowed ported engine you will see much better mid and peak range power and some owners have reported more economy.
The Sportraks come in various power levels right up to 94bhp. If you apply a few tuning mods to this model of Sportrak you will see power gains from anywhere between 103.4bhp to 131.6bhp. But this sort of power requires some pretty heavy investment and a hell of a lot of engine work. .
The largest power gains for NASP engines usually involve the addition of forced induction. Turbos are harder to add to a car than a supercharger. It is harder to map a turbo as the boost comes on progressively with engine speed. The nice steady boost to rpm characteristics of the supercharger make them easier to map. Suspension improvements can dramatically increase the road holding and cornering of your Sportrak. A drop of 35mm will work well on most cars, any lower and you will hit other problems.
