Tuning guide for the De Tomaso Guara

Available in standard form with power of upto 285bhp (depending on the year), so this goes to show the tuning potential of the Guara. From this you can increase the power from anywhere between 313.5bhp to 484.5bhp depending on how far you want to go. The larger power figure would need major work like a rebore, balancing, porting polishing and an agressive cam. It would also take a fairly hefty dose of forced induction.
The more powerful Guara Coupes provide a suitable donor engine for the lower powered models in the range. You should also get a better fuel pressure regulator such as those supplied by FSE
The modification that gives the biggest power gain on your car would be a fast road cam. Turn your attention next to the Guaras engine head. With a good gas flowed ported engine you will see much better mid and peak range power.

On a motorsport prepared Guara it is possible to achieve power figures of anywhere approaching 370.5bhp to 541.5bhp. But this sort of power requires some pretty heavy investment and a hell of a lot of engine work. . Many Guara owners improve the handling of their cars with slightly stiffer springs. Although lowering improves handling you should stick to a drop of 35mm.
