Modifications for the Fiat Tempra
We like the Tempra and with a few of our Tempra tuning tips we are sure you will have a fantastic car. Better than what Fiat ever intended!
Available in standard form with power of upto 117bhp (depending on the year), so this goes to show the tuning potential of the Tempra. From this you can increase the power from anywhere between 128.7bhp to 198.9bhp but this is far out of the reach of your local part store.
You will need some extensive work on the engine block, gas flowing, porting, 3 angle valve job, fast road cams, a remap, full balance and blueprint and even then you will need to add some pretty serious forced induction upgrades.
The Car Tuning Guide suggest that if you have a lower powered version you should do an engine swap with a ’117bhp Tempra Saloons’. Certainly a popular car choice and a reasonable starting point for tuning up. The most frequent modification we see on the Tempra include sports exhausts, washable replacement panel air filters and a fuel pressure boost valve.
FASTROAD CAMS should be next up on your tuning list and will offer reasonable power gains on the Tempra. Getting better flow through the head of the engine would reward your Tempra with more power and may actually give a little more economy. So get the engine head polished and ported.
The Tempras come in various power levels right up to 117bhp. If you apply a few tuning mods to this model of Tempra you will see power gains from anywhere between 128.7bhp to 163.8bhp. But this sort of power requires some pretty heavy investment and a hell of a lot of engine work. .
The largest power gains for NASP engines usually involve the addition of forced induction. It is easier to bolt on a supercharger than it is to get an add on turbo working. Turbos give boost in proportion to increasing engine speed and this can make mapping difficult. It is easier to map a supercharger because the boost is proportional to engine speed on a linear curve. The Tempras handling can be dramatically improved with some choice suspension modifications. A drop of 35mm will work well on most cars, any lower and you will hit other problems.
Soon the car tuning guide will offer more detailed and in depth tuning guides for the Tempra so bookmark this site and we hope to see you again.
