Tuning the Hyundai Pony X5

Available in standard form with power of upto 82bhp (depending on the year), so this goes to show the tuning potential of the Pony X5. From this you can increase the power from anywhere between 90.2bhp to 139.4bhp but this is far out of the reach of your local part store.
You will need some extensive work on the engine block, gas flowing, porting, 3 angle valve job, fast road cams, a remap, full balance and blueprint and even then you will need to add some pretty serious forced induction upgrades.
Hyundai mods should include an engine swap to provide a better base to work from. The ’82bhp Hatchbacks’ is a real gem in terms of power. Employ some weight reduction to make your Pony X5 perform better. Car Tuning Guide have been impressed with the addition of fuel pressure boost valves on the Pony X5s , if you want to improve your throttle response get one fitted! The next level of modifications involve taking more aggressive action. The Pony X5 responds reasonably well to a fast road cam which is one of the best value mods out there.
NOTE: POWER GAINS ARE PROPORTIONAL TO YOUR BASE POWER. The more you start with the better your gain will be. Don’t waste time on small engines – do a swap. Internal engine modifications that should be high up on your list would be polishing and porting the head. Some Pony X5 owners report increased MPG with a flowed head. Suspension upgrades are next on every Pony X5 owners priority list. Although lowering improves handling you should stick to a drop of 35mm.
