Tuning tips for the Hyundai Pony X7

Available in standard form with power of upto 82bhp (depending on the year), so this goes to show the tuning potential of the Pony X7. From this you can increase the power from anywhere between 90.2bhp to 139.4bhp and this would take a lot more than just bolting on a massive exhaust and adding a go faster stripe.
For serious power hikes like this you would need to look at rebores, porting and polishing and add into the mix a hefty dose of forced induction.
The more powerful Hatchbacks provide a suitable donor engine for the lower powered models in the range. On practically all cars from Hyundai, you will see performance gains from some weight reduction. If you can shed a few hundred KG’s off your Pony X7 you will get a much better return on your tuning investment. Pony X7 tuning projects should generally start with some improvement to the intake/exhaust of the engine. So get a good quality sponge or cotton gauze panel air filter. A good fuel pressure regulator will up the throttle response. The modification that gives the best power gain on your car would be a fast road cam.
NOTE: ALL ENGINE POWER GAINS ARE PROPORTIONAL TO YOUR STARTING POWER. The more you start with the better your gain will be. So don’t expect miracles from small engines, and engine swap is a much better proposition. Getting better flow through the head of the engine would reward your Pony X7 with more power and may actually give a little more economy. So get the engine head polished and ported. Many Pony X7 owners improve the handling of their cars with slightly stiffer springs. A drop of 35mm will work well on most cars, any lower and you will hit other problems.
