Tuning tips for the Hyundai Pony X8

Available in standard form with power of upto 71bhp (depending on the year), so this goes to show the tuning potential of the Pony X8. From this you can increase the power from anywhere between 78.1bhp to 120.7bhp but this is far out of the reach of your local part store.
You will need some extensive work on the engine block, gas flowing, porting, 3 angle valve job, fast road cams, a remap, full balance and blueprint and even then you will need to add some pretty serious forced induction upgrades.
The more powerful Hatchbacks provide a suitable donor engine for the lower powered models in the range. Hyundai have produced some interesting cars over the years. The Pony X8s really will benefit from a hike in the power, alternatively reducing the weight will help to improve the performance of your car. Top of your list for tuning mods will be a fuel boost valve (for a snappy throttle response) and a good quality panel air filter. The next level of modifications involve taking more aggressive action. The Pony X8 responds reasonably well to a fast road cam which is one of the best value mods out there.
NOTE: POWER GAINS ARE PROPORTIONAL TO YOUR BASE POWER. The more you start with the better your gain will be. Don’t waste time on small engines – do a swap. Getting better flow through the head of the engine would reward your Pony X8 with more power and may actually give a little more economy. So get the engine head polished and ported. Many Pony X8 owners improve the handling of their cars with slightly stiffer springs. Although lowering improves handling you should stick to a drop of 35mm.
