Modifications for the Kia Mentor

Engine Tuning

Our guide will make your Mentor much better and more fun to drive!

Available in standard form with power of upto 101bhp (depending on the year), so this goes to show the tuning potential of the Mentor. From this you can increase the power from anywhere between 111.1bhp to 171.7bhp and this would take a lot more than just bolting on a massive exhaust and adding a go faster stripe.

For serious power hikes like this you would need to look at rebores, porting and polishing and add into the mix a hefty dose of forced induction.

Kia mods should include an engine swap to provide a better base to work from. The ’101bhp Mentor Saloons’ is a real gem in terms of power. The standard Mentors are positively crying out for more power. The most frequent modification we see on the Mentor include sports exhausts, washable replacement panel air filters and a fuel pressure boost valve.

The next level of modifications involve taking more aggressive action. The Mentor responds reasonably well to a fast road cam which is one of the best value mods out there. Getting better flow through the head of the engine would reward your Mentor with more power and may actually give a little more economy. So get the engine head polished and ported.

The top Mentor offers a base power level of 101 bhp. The car tuning guide would expect you to see power gains from 111.1 bhp to 141.4 bhp!

Despite the large cost involved adding forced induction to a NASP engine will give large power gains. It is easier to bolt on a supercharger than it is to get an add on turbo working. With a turbo the boost curve is related to the engine speed making it hard to map. The nice steady boost to rpm characteristics of the supercharger make them easier to map. Many Mentor owners improve the handling of their cars with slightly stiffer springs. To avoid other problems you should lower the car no more than 36mm.

Soon the car tuning guide will offer more detailed and in depth tuning guides for the Mentor so bookmark this site and we hope to see you again.
