Tuning guide for the Kia Shuma

Available in standard form with power of upto 115bhp (depending on the year), so this goes to show the tuning potential of the Shuma. From this you can increase the power from anywhere between 126.5bhp to 195.5bhp but this is far out of the reach of your local part store.
You will need some extensive work on the engine block, gas flowing, porting, 3 angle valve job, fast road cams, a remap, full balance and blueprint and even then you will need to add some pretty serious forced induction upgrades.
The more powerful Shuma IIs provide a suitable donor engine for the lower powered models in the range. Car Tuning Guide think it is a shame that the Shumas were not offered with more powerful engine options, but this is where customisation comes in. The most frequent modification we see on the Shuma include sports exhausts, washable replacement panel air filters and a fuel pressure boost valve.
The modification that gives the best power gain on your car would be a fast road cam. Internal engine modifications that should be high up on your list would be polishing and porting the head. Some Shuma owners report increased MPG with a flowed head.
The top Shuma offers a base power level of 115 bhp. The car tuning guide would expect you to see power gains from 126.5 bhp to 161 bhp!
The largest power gains for NASP engines usually involve the addition of forced induction. Superchargers are generally easier to add aftermarket to a car than a turbo. With a turbo the boost curve is related to the engine speed making it hard to map. The nice steady boost to rpm characteristics of the supercharger make them easier to map. Suspension improvements can dramatically increase the road holding and cornering of your Shuma. The Car Tuning Guide do not recommend lowering more than 35mm.
