Niva tuning tips from the car tuning guide, we take a look at the best power mods for the Niva in our latest guide.
Available in standard form with power of upto 86bhp (depending on the year), so this goes to show the tuning potential of the Niva. From this you can increase the power from anywhere between 94.6bhp to 146.2bhp depending on how far you want to go. The larger power figure would need major work like a rebore, balancing, porting polishing and an agressive cam. It would also take a fairly hefty dose of forced induction.
If you have a lower powered Niva your best bet for a mod would be an engine swap with the 86bhp Niva Estate or look to source a suitable Lancia turbo as a donor engine. Lada have produced some interesting cars over the years and the Niva is their attempt at an off road vehicle. The Nivas really will benefit from a hike in the power, alternatively reducing the weight will help to improve the performance of your car.
Top of your list for tuning mods will be a fuel boost valve (for a snappy throttle response) and a good quality panel air filter. The Car Tuning Guide recommend that on the Nivas, you stick with the standard cam and keep the low down torque.
NOTE: POWER GAINS ARE PROPORTIONAL TO YOUR BASE POWER. The more you start with the better your gain will be. Doing an engine swap will give a better result than modding a small engine. Internal engine modifications that should be high up on your list would be polishing and porting the head. Some Niva owners report increased MPG with a flowed head. Many Niva owners improve the handling of their cars with slightly stiffer springs and jacked up suspension. To avoid other problems you should not lower the car or as many Niva owners have done, jack up the suspension to give more ground clearance.
We will be covering Niva modifications in more detail in the future so plase bookmark this site and check back for regular updates.
