Tuning tips for the Lada Riva

Available in standard form with power of upto 87bhp (depending on the year), so this goes to show the tuning potential of the Riva. From this you can increase the power from anywhere between 95.7bhp to 147.9bhp with modifications varying from a few DIY mods to some pretty major engine work. The higher you go the more unreliable the car will be and you should expect to have to rebuild the engine regularly if you want to extract silly power. A big forced induction upgrade would be needed to push beyond the 100bhp per 1000cc limit.
The more powerful Riva Saloons provide a suitable donor engine for the lower powered models in the range. Lada have produced some interesting cars over the years. The Rivas really will benefit from a hike in the power, alternatively reducing the weight will help to improve the performance of your car. Top of your list for tuning mods will be a fuel boost valve (for a snappy throttle response) and a good quality panel air filter. FASTROAD CAMS should be next up on your tuning list and will offer reasonable power gains on the Riva.
NOTE: The more you power that you start with the better your gain will be. POWER GAINS ARE PROPORTIONAL TO YOUR BASE POWER. Rather than try to hit big power figures on a small engine try and do an engine swap instead. Getting better flow through the head of the engine would reward your Riva with more power and may actually give a little more economy. So get the engine head polished and ported. Suspension improvements can dramatically increase the road holding and cornering of your Riva. To avoid other problems you should lower the car no more than 36mm.
