Tuning tips for the MG ZR

Engine Tuning

When tuning your ZR it is important that you get it right so follow our ZR tuning overview and see which the best modifications are.

Available in standard form with power of upto 159bhp (depending on the year), so this goes to show the tuning potential of the ZR. From this you can increase the power from anywhere between 174.9bhp to 270.3bhp which seems almost too good to be true but is possible if you have deep pockets.

To go over the 100bhp per 1000cc limit you would need to be running a pretty serious forced induction setup. If you head for a maximum power figure you need to expect a lot of unreliability. See this link for more details on Engine Tuning

An engine swap with that from the 159bhp ZR Hatchback will give a massive power gain and provide a better base to work from. The more powerful ZRs respond well to tuning mods. Car Tuning Guide have been impressed with the addition of stainless steel exhaust systems on the ZRs , if you want to improve your top end go with an air induction filter. You should also get a better fuel pressure regulator such as those supplied by FSE

FASTROAD CAMS should be next up on your tuning list and will offer big power gains on the ZR. Turn your attention next to the ZRs engine head. With a good gas flowed ported engine you will see much better mid and peak range power.

The most powerful ZR Hatchback in our database offers 159 bhp. From this you can increase the power from anywhere between 174.9 bhp to 270.3bhp with mods we have outlined above.

The forced induction ZRs are around with some impressive Turbo and supercharger conversions being done. These give impressive power gains over standard but require a lot of effort to get working properly. If you have a turbo or supercharger get the intercooler uprated for even more power. The ZRs come in various power levels right up to 159bhp. On a motorsport prepared ZR it is possible to achieve power figures of anywhere approaching 206.7bhp to 302.1bhp. But this sort of power requires some pretty heavy investment and a hell of a lot of engine work. . Suspension upgrades are next on every ZR owners priority list. A drop of 35mm will work well on most cars, any lower and you will hit other problems.

We will be covering ZR modifications in more detail in the future so plase bookmark this site and check back for regular updates.
