Available in standard form with power of upto 282bhp (depending on the year), so this goes to show the tuning potential of the 3000. From this you can increase the power from anywhere between 310.2bhp to 479.4bhp but this is far out of the reach of your local part store.
You will need some extensive work on the engine block, gas flowing, porting, 3 angle valve job, fast road cams, a remap, full balance and blueprint and even then you will need to add some pretty serious forced induction upgrades.
An engine swap with that from the 282bhp 3000 GT will give a massive power gain and provide a better base to work from. Mitsubishi certainly know what they are doing when it comes to making a fun car and the more powerful 3000s provide and excellent tuning base to work from. Mitsubishi put together a nice package but the turbo 3000 owners have a real tuners dream. A remap and Intercooler will add a lot of power to the engine and in some cases you can double your power. The top 3000 offers a base power level of 282 bhp. When setup for motorports we can expect to see almost mythical power figures approaching 366.6 bhp to 535.8 bhp! High on your list of mods for your 3000 should be handling improvements. Although lowering improves handling you should stick to a drop of 35mm.
