Available in standard form with power of upto 148bhp (depending on the year), so this goes to show the tuning potential of the Colt. From this you can increase the power from anywhere between 162.8bhp to 251.6bhp with modifications varying from a few DIY mods to some pretty major engine work. The higher you go the more unreliable the car will be and you should expect to have to rebuild the engine regularly if you want to extract silly power. A big forced induction upgrade would be needed to push beyond the 100bhp per 1000cc limit.
If you have a lower powered Colt your best bet for a mod would be an engine swap with the 148bhp Colt CZT. Already a popular choice for tuning up, especially the more powerful ColtsColt tuning projects should generally start with some improvement to the intake/exhaust of the engine. So get a stainless steel exhaust and good quality induction kit. A good fuel pressure regulator will up the throttle response.
The modification that gives the biggest power gain on your car would be a fast road cam. Internal engine modifications that should be high up on your list would be polishing and porting the head.
