Tuning the Nissan Maxima
Our guide will make your Maxima much better and more fun to drive!
Available in standard form with power of upto 202bhp (depending on the year), so this goes to show the tuning potential of the Maxima. From this you can increase the power from anywhere between 222.2bhp to 343.4bhp but this depends on how deep your pockets are and how much fairy dust you want to use! You will almost certainly need to look at turbo or supercharger mods to get near that maximum power figure and your engines internals would need to be a fair bit stronger!
If you have a lower powered Maxima your best bet for a mod would be an engine swap with the 202bhp Maxima QX. There are some star performers in the Maxima line up. With a few mods you will make yours a road scortcher rather than just a hot hatch.Your first engine modifications for your Maxima should be an induction kit, sports exhaust and fuel boost valve.
FASTROAD CAMS should be next up on your tuning list and will offer big power gains on the Maxima. Turn your attention next to the Maximas engine head. With a good gas flowed ported engine you will see much better mid and peak range power.
The top Maxima QX offers a base power level of 202 bhp. The car tuning guide would expect you to see power gains from 222.2 bhp to 343.4 bhp!
The forced induction Maximas are around with some impressive Turbo and supercharger conversions being done. These give impressive power gains over standard but require a lot of effort to get working properly. If you have a turbo or supercharger get the intercooler uprated for even more power. The most powerful Maxima has a healthy 202 bhp. In a competition setting you may well, with some forced induction, reboring and other major work see power figures between 262.6 bhp to 383.8bhp with mods we have outlined above.) Suspension upgrades are next on every Maxima owners priority list. Although lowering improves handling you should stick to a drop of 35mm.
