Tuning the Nissan Skyline

Engine Tuning

Our guide will make your Skyline much better and more fun to drive!

Available in standard form with power of upto 276bhp (depending on the year), so this goes to show the tuning potential of the Skyline. From this you can increase the power from anywhere between 303.6bhp to 469.2bhp and this would take a lot more than just bolting on a massive exhaust and adding a go faster stripe.

For serious power hikes like this you would need to look at rebores, porting and polishing and add into the mix a hefty dose of forced induction.

If you have a lower powered Skyline your best bet for a mod would be an engine swap with the 276bhp Skyline R33. The more powerful Skylines respond exceptionally well to tuning mods. Top of your list for tuning mods will be a sports exhaust system, a fuel boost valve (for a snappy throttle response) and a good quality induction kit.

The next level of modifications involve taking more aggressive action. The Skyline responds well to a fast road cam which is one of the best value mods out there. Turn your attention next to the Skylines engine head. With a good gas flowed ported engine you will see much better mid and peak range power.

The most powerful Skyline R33 in our database offers 276 bhp. From this you can increase the power from anywhere between 303.6 bhp to 469.2bhp with mods we have outlined above.

A Skyline with forced induction (turbo or supercharger) will give even larger power gains that this. The top Skyline offers a base power level of 276 bhp. When setup for motorports we can expect to see almost mythical power figures approaching 358.8 bhp to 524.4 bhp! Suspension upgrades are next on every Skyline owners priority list. A drop of 35mm will work well on most cars, any lower and you will hit other problems.

We will have more detailed Skyline modification guides in the near future. Please check the site regularly for updates.
