Tuning tips for the Peugeot 405

Available in standard form with power of upto 162bhp (depending on the year), so this goes to show the tuning potential of the 405. From this you can increase the power from anywhere between 178.2bhp to 275.4bhp which seems almost too good to be true but is possible if you have deep pockets.
To go over the 100bhp per 1000cc limit you would need to be running a pretty serious forced induction setup. If you head for a maximum power figure you need to expect a lot of unreliability. See this link for more details on Engine Tuning
If you have a lower powered 405 your best bet for a mod would be an engine swap with the 162bhp 405 Saloon. The Car Tuning Guide have been impressed by the 405s (especially the sporty ones!) They reward the tuner with even more power and a better ride. 405 tuning projects should generally start with some improvement to the intake/exhaust of the engine. So get a stainless steel exhaust and good quality induction kit. A good fuel pressure regulator will up the throttle response.
The modification that gives the biggest power gain on your car would be a fast road cam. Internal engine modifications that should be high up on your list would be polishing and porting the head.
The top 405 Saloon offers a base power level of 162 bhp. The car tuning guide would expect you to see power gains from 178.2 bhp to 275.4 bhp!
A 405 with forced induction (turbo or supercharger) will give even larger power gains that this. The most powerful 405 has a healthy 162 bhp. In a competition setting you may well, with some forced induction, reboring and other major work see power figures between 210.6 bhp to 307.8bhp with mods we have outlined above.) Suspension improvements can dramatically increase the road holding and cornering of your 405. The Car Tuning Guide do not recommend lowering more than 35mm.
