Tuning the Porsche 911

Engine Tuning

We like the 911 and with a few of our 911 tuning tips we are sure you will have a fantastic car. Better than what Porsche ever intended!

Available in standard form with power of upto 483bhp (depending on the year), so this goes to show the tuning potential of the 911. From this you can increase the power from anywhere between 531.3bhp to 821.1bhp but this is far out of the reach of your local part store.

You will need some extensive work on the engine block, gas flowing, porting, 3 angle valve job, fast road cams, a remap, full balance and blueprint and even then you will need to add some pretty serious forced induction upgrades.

If you have a lower powered 911 your best bet for a mod would be an engine swap with the 483bhp 911 Coupe. Looking at what Porsche have done with their top of the range 911s you get an idea for the tuning potential open to you. Your first engine modifications for your 911 should be an induction kit, sports exhaust and fuel boost valve.

The Car Tuning Guide recommend that on the 911s , you get a fast road cam. Turn your attention next to the 911s engine head. With a good gas flowed ported engine you will see much better mid and peak range power.

The 911s come in various power levels right up to 483bhp as per the 911 Coupe If you apply a few tuning mods to this model of 911 you will see power gains from anywhere between 531.3bhp to 821.1bhp. But this sort of power requires some pretty heavy investment and a hell of a lot of engine work. .

The forced induction 911s are around with some impressive Turbo and supercharger conversions being done. These give impressive power gains over standard but require a lot of effort to get working properly. If you have a turbo or supercharger get the intercooler uprated for even more power. The most powerful 911 has a healthy 483 bhp. In a competition setting you may well, with some forced induction, reboring and other major work see power figures between 627.9 bhp to 917.7bhp with mods we have outlined above.) Suspension improvements can dramatically increase the road holding and cornering of your 911. A drop of 35mm will work well on most cars, any lower and you will hit other problems.

We will have more detailed 911 modification guides in the near future. Please check the site regularly for updates.
