Tuning modifications for the Rover 800

Available in standard form with power of upto 200bhp (depending on the year), so this goes to show the tuning potential of the 800. From this you can increase the power from anywhere between 220bhp to 340bhp but this is far out of the reach of your local part store.
You will need some extensive work on the engine block, gas flowing, porting, 3 angle valve job, fast road cams, a remap, full balance and blueprint and even then you will need to add some pretty serious forced induction upgrades.
If you have a lower powered 800 your best bet for a mod would be an engine swap with the 200bhp 800 Saloon. The more powerful 800s respond well to tuning mods. Top of your list for tuning mods will be a sports exhaust system, a fuel boost valve (for a snappy throttle response) and a good quality induction kit.
The Car Tuning Guide recommend that on the 800s , you get a fast road cam. Getting better flow through the head of the engine would reward your 800 with more power. So get the engine head polished and ported.

On a motorsport prepared 800 it is possible to achieve power figures of anywhere approaching 260bhp to 380bhp. But this sort of power requires some pretty heavy investment and a hell of a lot of engine work. . Suspension improvements can dramatically increase the road holding and cornering of your 800. The Car Tuning Guide do not recommend lowering more than 35mm.
