Modifications for the Subaru XT
When tuning your XT it is important that you get it right so follow our XT tuning overview and see which the best modifications are.
Available in standard form with power of upto 136bhp (depending on the year), so this goes to show the tuning potential of the XT. From this you can increase the power from anywhere between 149.6bhp to 231.2bhp depending on how far you want to go. The larger power figure would need major work like a rebore, balancing, porting polishing and an agressive cam. It would also take a fairly hefty dose of forced induction.
If you have a lower powered XT your best bet for a mod would be an engine swap with the 136bhp XT Turbo. The Car Tuning Guide have been impressed by the XTs (especially the sporty ones!) They reward the tuner with even more power and a better ride. Car Tuning Guide have been impressed with the addition of stainless steel exhaust systems on the XTs , if you want to improve your top end go with an air induction filter. You should also get a better fuel pressure regulator such as those supplied by FSE
The Car Tuning Guide recommend that on the XTs , you get a fast road cam. Turn your attention next to the XTs engine head. With a good gas flowed ported engine you will see much better mid and peak range power.
The XTs come in various power levels right up to 136bhp as per the XT Turbo If you apply a few tuning mods to this model of XT you will see power gains from anywhere between 149.6bhp to 231.2bhp. But this sort of power requires some pretty heavy investment and a hell of a lot of engine work. . Many XT owners improve the handling of their cars with slightly stiffer springs. A drop of 35mm will work well on most cars, any lower and you will hit other problems.
