Tuning the Suzuki Liana
Really hot tuning tips and advice.
Available in standard form with power of upto 106bhp (depending on the year), so this goes to show the tuning potential of the Liana. From this you can increase the power from anywhere between 116.6bhp to 180.2bhp with modifications varying from a few DIY mods to some pretty major engine work. The higher you go the more unreliable the car will be and you should expect to have to rebuild the engine regularly if you want to extract silly power. A big forced induction upgrade would be needed to push beyond the 100bhp per 1000cc limit.
If you have a lower powered Liana your best bet for a mod would be an engine swap with the 106bhp Liana Hatchback. The standard Lianas are positively crying out for more power. Liana tuning projects should generally start with some improvement to the intake/exhaust of the engine. So get a stainless steel exhaust and good quality sponge or cotton gauze panel air filter. A good fuel pressure regulator will up the throttle response.
The next level of modifications involve taking more aggressive action. The Liana responds reasonably well to a fast road cam which is one of the best value mods out there. Turn your attention next to the Lianas engine head. With a good gas flowed ported engine you will see much better mid and peak range power and some owners have reported more economy.
The Lianas come in various power levels right up to 106bhp. If you apply a few tuning mods to this model of Liana you will see power gains from anywhere between 116.6bhp to 148.4bhp. But this sort of power requires some pretty heavy investment and a hell of a lot of engine work. .
The largest power gains for NASP engines usually involve the addition of forced induction. It is easier to bolt on a supercharger than it is to get an add on turbo working. With a turbo the boost curve is related to the engine speed making it hard to map. The nice steady boost to rpm characteristics of the supercharger make them easier to map. The Lianas handling can be dramatically improved with some choice suspension modifications. You shouldn’t really lower a car by more than 30-35mm.
