We have a comprehensive database of all the latest and greatest modifications to your car.
Available in standard form with power of upto 65bhp (depending on the year), so this goes to show the tuning potential of the SJ. From this you can increase the power from anywhere between 71.5bhp to 110.5bhp with modifications varying from a few DIY mods to some pretty major engine work. The higher you go the more unreliable the car will be and you should expect to have to rebuild the engine regularly if you want to extract silly power. A big forced induction upgrade would be needed to push beyond the 100bhp per 1000cc limit.
Suzuki mods should include an engine swap to provide a better base to work from. The ’65bhp SJ Softtops’ is a real gem in terms of power. Suzuki have produced some interesting cars over the years. The SJs really will benefit from a hike in the power, alternatively reducing the weight will help to improve the performance of your car. The most frequent modification we see on the SJ include washable replacement panel air filters and a fuel pressure boost valve. FASTROAD CAMS should be next up on your tuning list and will offer reasonable power gains on the SJ.
NOTE: The more you power that you start with the better your gain will be. POWER GAINS ARE PROPORTIONAL TO YOUR BASE POWER. Rather than try to hit big power figures on a small engine try and do an engine swap instead. Getting better flow through the head of the engine would reward your SJ with more power and may actually give a little more economy. So get the engine head polished and ported. The SJs handling can be dramatically improved with some choice suspension modifications. You shouldn’t really lower a car by more than 30-35mm.
We will be covering SJ modifications in more detail in the future so plase bookmark this site and check back for regular updates.
