Increase the power of your Vitara Soft top Vitara
We have a comprehensive database of all the latest and greatest modifications to your car.
Available in standard form with power of upto 96bhp (depending on the year), so this goes to show the tuning potential of the Vitara. From this you can increase the power from anywhere between 105.6bhp to 163.2bhp which seems almost too good to be true but is possible if you have deep pockets.
To go over the 100bhp per 1000cc limit you would need to be running a pretty serious forced induction setup. If you head for a maximum power figure you need to expect a lot of unreliability. See this link for more details on Engine Tuning
An engine swap with that from the 96bhp top will give a massive power gain and provide a better base to work from. Certainly a popular car choice and a reasonable starting point for tuning up. Vitara tuning projects should generally start with some improvement to the intake/exhaust of the engine. So get a stainless steel exhaust and good quality sponge or cotton gauze panel air filter. A good fuel pressure regulator will up the throttle response.
The next level of modifications involve taking more aggressive action. The Vitara responds reasonably well to a fast road cam which is one of the best value mods out there. Turn your attention next to the Vitaras engine head. With a good gas flowed ported engine you will see much better mid and peak range power and some owners have reported more economy.
The Vitaras come in various power levels right up to 96bhp. If you apply a few tuning mods to this model of Vitara you will see power gains from anywhere between 105.6bhp to 134.4bhp. But this sort of power requires some pretty heavy investment and a hell of a lot of engine work. .
Adding forced induction will see big power gains but this is usually too expensive to be cost effective. Superchargers are generally easier to add aftermarket to a car than a turbo. With a turbo the boost curve is related to the engine speed making it hard to map. Superchargers however will give a boost which is proportional to engine speed so is easier to map. High on your list of mods for your Vitara should be handling improvements. You shouldn’t really lower a car by more than 30-35mm.
