Available in standard form with power of upto 170bhp (depending on the year), so this goes to show the tuning potential of the 740. From this you can increase the power from anywhere between 187bhp to 289bhp which seems almost too good to be true but is possible if you have deep pockets.

If you have one of the lower powered 740s you should think about an engine swap with the engine from the 170bhp 740 Saloons. There are some star performers in the 740 line up. With a few mods you will make yours a road scortcher rather than just a hot hatch.Car Tuning Guide have been impressed with the addition of stainless steel exhaust systems on the 740s , if you want to improve your top end go with an air induction filter. You should also get a better fuel pressure regulator such as those supplied by FSE
The next level of modifications involve taking more aggressive action. The 740 responds well to a fast road cam which is one of the best value mods out there. Internal engine modifications that should be high up on your list would be polishing and porting the head.

The top 740 offers a base power level of 170 bhp. When setup for motorports we can expect to see almost mythical power figures approaching 221 bhp to 323 bhp! Suspension improvements can dramatically increase the road holding and cornering of your 740. The Car Tuning Guide do not recommend lowering more than 35mm.
